2007.12.02 The 2,000,000,000,000,000th bit of Pi is 0
After confirmation, we now can announce that the 2,000,000,000,000,000th bit (in binary) of Pi is 0
That should be the new record of the world!
The answer starting at the 1,999,999,999,999,997th bit (in binary) is:
0000 1110 0110 1100 0001 0010
^The 2,000,000,000,000,000th bit
Download the details of results here.
Meanwhile, we publish the source code. You can download it here.
2007.07.31 We Have Received Sufficient Data To Get Result
Currently, the efficient data server received are sufficient to get conclusion.
We will close the download window but keep the upload window open. You can upload completed WUs and their scores will be calculated.
The upload window will be closed if no data are uploaded for three continuous days. We will also begin to analyze the data on that time.
2007.07.07 New Translation File of German and Italian is Available
We were originally going to release this file with the new client.
But since current project is about to finish, we will only release the language patch.
Installation Note:
1. Decompress the zip file and copy it to the "Pi Segment" directory to overwrite the file with same name.
2. Restart the client.
2007.07.06 We are going to get it!
We will finish all the WUs if we keep current speed in a week. But actually we need possibly a little more time, because at the end of stage there may not be enoguh WUs for everyone to download.
Also, we will do following operations to keep the project to run smoothly:
1. Fix all the incorrect WUs. We will duplicate all the WUs whose results are wrong and you will find that there will be some more WUs.
2. Decrease the limitation of download number. As the credit of every participators will be down to 4000, one can only hold 40 WUs at most. In this way, WUs will be well distributed.
3. Enable WU duplication mechanism. The server will make a duplicate for a WU if it have not been uploaded for a certain time. However, if the former downloader upload the WU, server will accept it.
2007.04.28 A Fix to the Download Problem
After the recent maintenance, some users have complaint to us that their machines were unable to download workunits. Here's a fix to it: you can simply restart the client to have this download problem fixed. This problem will be investigated. We apologize for the inconvenience.
2007.04.24 Server Will Be Shut Down For 12 Hours On Apr. 26th (UTC+8)
For routine maintenance, server will be shut down for about 12 hours on Apr. 26th (UTC+8).
We suggest participators to download enough caches for computaion during that time.
2007.02.17 Happy Chinese New Year!
2007.01.26 Recovered From an Unexpected Server Failure
The server was unexpectedly down from 18:12 yesterday to 8:36 today (Beijing Time, GMT+8).
We are analyzing the exact reason and it should be an error pf the operating system, according to currently known evidences.
The database perhaps has some incongruous data currently but it will be automatically convergent soon.
We are so sorry for this failure!
2007.01.08 The Signature in English is Temporarily Down
Due to the broken cables, some forums said that it's hard to display the signature of Pi Segment.
Thus, we temporarily shut down the signature in English and recommend XML link instead.
2007.01.02 Please Download Patch V1.4.0.2
We've found a BUG:
Description: The over-stuffed cache may result in losing WU
Trigger condition: The number of WUs in local cache execeeds 200 (including uncompletetd and/or completed but not uploaded WU)
Affection: loss in credit
Solution: Please download Patch V1.4.0.2. Close the client first and overwrite the file with the files in the patch which has the same name, and then run client again.
Although the BUG had only affected a few users, we are so sorry about that!
If you encounter "not enough credit" because of this BUG, please contact pisegment@gmail.com
Thanks CaptainMooseInc and xieyun who noticed this BUG.

Recently we've found a critical bug in V1.0.5.1.
This error will occur when the client operates on the database.
Since this bug appears only in some non-Chinese OSs, it may be due to the different character sets on them.
We are trying to fix this bug and will release a new version soon.
For the testers who is running client V1.0.5.1, we recommend you to do the following:
1. Check the "Autorun" checkbox in the page "User" and make sure the autorun function is canceled.

3. Wait for our new version.
We are terribly sorry for the inconvenience.
